INDUSTRIALIZATION, ELECTRIFICATION, COMPUTERIZATION - DIGITALIZATION?

Throughout history, people often have the terms that I have cited in the title of this article, explaining the great technological change that has brought enormous progress to mankind. Is this happening even today, when everyone, just like everyone, does not say that the notion of DIGITALIZATION sounds like something revolutionary? What does the concept of digitalization mean and is it something new?

I know, and did you ask yourself what the DIGITALIZATION is? I'm in the IT industry since I was 17 years old, and now I am 110101 years old (digitally). Is that it? Will we turn everything into zeroes and units?! Of course not!

I had an almost interesting conversation with a gentleman from the Head Hunting Agency. After I sent my CV to them on their request, they called me and said: I do not see from your CV what kind of experience do you have in the Digital Transformation? I opened my CV and attachments, list my completed projects and read it again: ERP, ERP, DMS, ERP, WMS, ERP, CRM, Mobile Sales, ERP ... and so more than 50 and less than 200 times !?

WHAT IS DIGITALIZATION?

Like everyone today, I opened Google and looked for an answer, not believing my existing knowledge. Is Digitalization or Digital Transformation something new that I do not know? I accept the fact that I do not know everything, but from the IT industry ... !? Hmmm, 50% yes but 100% no!

I went to see what they say on Gartner.com and read the following: "... Digitalization is the use of digital technologies to change the business model and provide new opportunities to generate revenue and new value, that is, the process of transition to a digital business."

It did not really make me believe in my knowlage, so I searched for more, Coresystems.net (now part of SAP) says (quote): "... Sometimes business processes were analogous. All the instructions, product descriptions or service books were printed ... Digitization allows you to all this in digital format ... ".

I found myself in a situation where I have not often been, that I can not understand what Mr. Hunter wanted to say about my experience of Digital Transformation, or do we rarely use terms that we do not even know what they mean or are trying to imitate give meaning or importance they do not deserve.

But to start with, in the middle of the last century, computers began to enter companies and replace paperwork, perhaps not to the extent that it is possible today, but banks, large corporations, military industry, research centers have begun to their data, accounts, interest accounts, cards, technical drawings, and tests are stored in computers in DIGITAL form. This digital form is still the same today (as represented by my number of years) as it was then, a series of units and zero. Today we are advanced and this series can be longer, and the processing of these same strings is faster, but it is THE SAME!

This means that any application you currently use in your company for managing your business processes (BPM) or for tracking and managing business (ERP), document management (DMS), tracking and managing customer communication (CRM) or tracking and Managing Your Stocks (WMS) is a DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION and it has already happened or has been happening for decades.

So what do you do then? Be out of modern trends in "digitization" or fall into the trap of digitalization.

I would explain this today's "technological revolution" called DIGITALIZATION in the following way. This is not something new that is happening and what brings a change that is completely new, but - if you have not started your business until now, translate into a digital form - go yesterday!

All of you who are already leading your business in an ERP system have already deeply embedded in digitization, but continue on.

What we would really make a revolution in business is digitizing intercompany data exchange! What it means? Although we have digitized in our company, we still receive invoices from suppliers in printed form or in pdf form and ...? Again, we need to enter these data into our system or our customer must enter our invoice into your system.

We have digitized everything, but we have not yet learned to digitally "talk and understand each other".

As early as 1987, the United Nations set up a standard called EDIFACT (Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce and Transport), however, no one in the Digitalisation concept talks about digitization today data, which is what we have to do to fully implement the "technological revolution" called DIGITALIZATION.

Without full digital data exchange between business entities around the world, there is no complete digitalization.

DIGITALIZATION - necessity or reality?
